Artist Statement

My latest body of work has focused on pieces that contain ephemeral characteristics. Visual transformations and each dramatic stage the pieces enter is where my interest lies.

Consumable materials such as alcohol and wood provide the catalysts in each piece. The combustible materials are held in trough forms or architectural armatures, which are structured into wearable jewelry and other forms. When ignited, the pieces cycle through certain stages producing an ephemeral moment and ultimately a transformed result.

The combustible materials I am working with produce dynamic visuals effects and result in a piece that has undergone a drastic change. I refer too many of the pieces as experiments, because there is a certain level of uncontrollability with the material. Embracing this factor has led me to produce this body of work.
